Novelist Diamond Shumsher dies at 94

KATHMANDU: Senior litterateur Diamond Shumsher Rana died at the Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali on Friday evening. He was 94.
A chronic diabetic, Rana was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after he fell unconscious on Tuesday. He was suffering from multiple problems including renal failure. He breathed his last at around 6:30 pm this evening.
Rana has authored many novels Seto Bagh, Basanti, Satprayas and Anita based on history.
It has been learnt that he will be cremated in the Pashupati Aryaghat tomorrow.
Born in the oligarchic Rana family, he later joined the Nepali Congress. He was jailed for eight years after King Mahendra took over, imposing a ban on multi-party democracy.
